Position Responsibilities

  • Organizes and documents scientific projects and activities;
  • Monitors Nexelis new assay, project development progress, client reports and communications;
  • Performs and provides direction for establishing, designing, and validating new tests in response to the needs of clients;
  • Provides support to technical staff in executing assay experiments and documentation of data in reports;
  • Prepares or reviews advanced data analysis, merging and transforming files and data, and identification of outliers for further study;
  • Performs statistical tests as required for the assigned project, to study outliers, or to answer questions if needed;
  • Prepares or review reports and documents that meet written scientific standards and comply with Nexelis quality assurance when requested and operations standards and the client-specific requirements;
  • Writes and reviews assay methods, plans, reports, assay checklists, and SOPs;
  • Reviews data and ensures timely reporting of test results;
  • Oversees scientific work as Project Manager and Data Manager to ensure that all everything are correctly assigned for all studies;
  • Facilitate internal and external working relationships and communications;
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among laboratory staff and other departments;
  • Provides leadership/mentoring/training over technical staff;
  • Relays information in a timely manner regarding problems that may impact the laboratory’s ability to meet expected service and turn-around-time;
  • Performs other duties related to NEXELIS performance and efficiency as the need arises;
  • Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations;
  • Maintains up to date knowledge in their scientific field;
  • Assures consistency and standards across the projects including documentation and reporting of results;
  • Participates in laboratory cost/timeline evaluations for new projects;
  • Ensures data accuracy and addresses discrepancies prior to project finalization;
  • Oversees, ensures compliance, and being trained for BSL-3 experimentation

Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced specialized knowledge of theories and principles of complex immunological systems and pathogens or cancer, immune-assays and animal models;
  • Well-developed skills using office productivity applications such as spreadsheets, data reduction and statistical applications, and presentation graphics;
  • Advanced math skills to conduct tests and analyze the significance of tests and statistical data;
  • Well-developed human relations skills to convey scientific concepts and consult with a range of internal and external contacts in formal settings for purposes of testing, conversion of data, and problem solving;
  • Ability to perform the functions of the position, including planning, testing, and reporting;
  • Ability to think independently and resolve complex problems without supervision or guidance;
  • Knowledge to operate the computers, operating systems, peripherals, and other equipment used by the company for information retrieval, storage, analysis, and processing;
  • Work collaboratively, follow logical progressions of testing projects and to think logically, creatively, and in abstract terms;
  • Employ critical thinking and evaluation techniques when developing and testing significance of scientific and research-oriented data;
  • Analyze and solve technical problems under time pressure;
  • Read, interpret and apply complex technical information.

Education

Masters in a biological science with at least ten years of laboratory experience with 3 years in similar position.
