Biological or Clinical Significance:

Apolipoproteins are the protein components of lipoproteins in plasma and determine the structure, function, and metabolism of lipoproteins. Apolipoprotein A-I and A-II constitute about 90% of the total HDL protein. The ratio of Apo A-I to Apo A-II in HDL is about 3:1. Apo A-I and Apo A-II modulate HDL metabolism. Apo A-I and Apo A-II also function as cofactors of LCAT in the conversion of free cholesterol to cholesterol esters.

Principle of Test Method:

The Apo A-II assay is an automated immunoturbidimetric method.
