Biological or Clinical Significance:
Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) is expressed in bone-resorbing osteoclasts and secreted into the circulation. Thus, serum TRACP has been considered as a potentially useful marker of bone resorption rate.
BoneTRAP® is specific for circulating osteoclast-derived TRACP-5b. BoneTRAP® detects only the active TRACP molecules that are freshly liberated in the circulation. It does not detect old circulating inactive TRACP molecules or fragments. Thus, BoneTRAP® gives an accurate estimation of the amount of bone resorption rate at the time of sample taking.
Principle of Test Method:
The TRACP-5b assay is a solid-phase ELISA designed to measure human TRACP-5b in serum or plasma. It is an immunofixed enzyme activity assay.
